In Cincinnati Starting April 17th

April 17th--Arrived in Cincinnati and checked into the Ronald McDonald House (Room#19).

April 18th--Dr. Cotton scoped her and found stenosis in one area of her trachea.  He decided against the LTP and opted to do a CTR (CricoTracheal Resection) instead. 

April 19th--We got caught up on sleep (all of us!!!!:) and we went to the hospital for a trach aspirate (to make sure that she was free from germs that would be harmful to continue the surgery).

April 20th--Off to the Cincinnati Zoo!!!

April 23rd--Went to Newport on the Levee to go to the big Aquarium.

April 24th--Went to the Kenwood Mall and built Mikayla a bear.

April 25th--Surgery Day!!!  Surgery went well and Mikayla is now in ICU room 611.  Some bad news about her blood count being low.  Mikayla got a blood transfusion.  Waiting for test results to come back.

May 2--Mikayla was scoped and her ET tube was downsized from a 4.0 to a 3.5.

May 3--Mikayla was taken off of the ventilator

May 5--She failed coming off of the ventilator and is now back on.  They re-scoped her said she had a lot of swelling.  They downsized her ET tube again and they will take her off of the ventilator again on Monday.

May 9--Mikayla was again taken off of the ventilator.  She only lasted 12 hours before she de-sated and they put her back on the ventilator.

May 12--Scheduled for another scope and possible tracheostomy at 1:00pm.  They still think that it is just swelling.

May 25--The last scope looked great, the trach did not go back in..another scope that looked well today and we were told we could go HOME!!!

May 27--We arrived home..our beds never felt so good.

June 8--Back for another scope.  It looked really good.  We don't have to go back for 3 months...we are scheduled for a return trip September 3.

July 7, 2005--Started speech therapy

September 3, 2005--Back for another scope...things looked great.  Back in 6 months

October 2005--Miakyla's feeding tube was taken out.

December 2005--Stopped speech therapy...Mikayla is caught up!

February 2006--Happy 2nd Birthday Mikayla 

March 24, 2006--1 year follow-up scope and ear tubes placed.  Miakyla's trach surgery site is healing great and looking wonderful.  We had to get ear tubes because of so many ear infections!!!!  She did great with the surgery. We don't have to return to Cincinnati for another year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
